Ford's printed schedules for the 2018–2023 F-150 change the oil when the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor asks, never more than one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km) apart, with a tire rotation and brake inspection at the same visits. The cabin filter is replaced every 20,000 miles (32,000 km), gasoline spark plugs every 100,000 miles (160,000 km) or 60,000 miles (96,000 km) under severe use, and the transmission, axle and 4x4 transfer case fluids every 150,000 miles (240,000 km). The 2024 and later manuals print no schedule.

For the 2018–2023 Ford F-150, the oil change comes when the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor says so, and never more than one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km) apart. The tires are rotated and the brakes inspected at the same visits. After that, Ford's printed schedule is mostly long intervals: the cabin filter every 20,000 miles (32,000 km), the engine air filter every 20,000 miles (30,000 miles, 48,000 km, on 2023), gasoline spark plugs every 100,000 miles (160,000 km), and the transmission, axle and 4x4 transfer case fluids every 150,000 miles (240,000 km).
This guide comes from Ford's US owner's manuals for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 F-150 (13th generation) and the 2021, 2022 and 2023 F-150 (14th generation). It covers the 3.3L Ti-VCT V6, the 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost V6, the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8, the 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid, the 3.0L Power Stroke diesel and the Raptor engines. It does not cover the 2015–2017 trucks or earlier generations, whose manuals we haven't reviewed. The F-150 Lightning has its own electric-vehicle schedule.
2024 and newer F-150s: no printed schedule
From the 2024 model year, the F-150 owner's manual no longer prints a maintenance table. It sends owners to Ford's VIN-based maintenance schedule tool on ford.com. We have no Ford document for 2024–2026 trucks, so this guide gives no intervals for them. If you own one, look up your VIN in Ford's tool.

Oil changes and the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor
Ford doesn't give the F-150 a fixed oil mileage. The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor shows an oil change message, and Ford asks you to change the oil within two weeks or 500 miles (≈800 km) of it appearing. The hard limit is one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km), whichever comes first. If the monitor is reset early or stops working, Ford's fallback is every six months or 5,000 miles (≈8,000 km).
Ford's own guide to when the message tends to appear:
- Normal use: 7,500 miles (≈12,000 km) to 10,000 miles (16,000 km).
- Severe use (moderate to heavy load or towing, mountainous or off-road driving, extended idling, extended hot or cold operation): 5,000–7,500 miles.
- Extreme use (maximum load or towing, extreme hot or cold operation): 3,000–5,000 miles (≈4,800–8,000 km).
On dusty or sandy roads, the severe schedule changes the oil every 5,000 miles (≈8,000 km) or six months. The 2021–2023 manuals add that the PowerBoost hybrid may go longer than 10,000 miles between oil changes, but never past the one-year maximum.
3.0L Power Stroke diesel (2018–2020 manuals): in dusty conditions, every 7,500 miles (≈12,000 km), six months or 300 engine hours; off-road, every 7,000 miles (≈11,000 km) or 300 engine hours.
Filters, spark plugs and belts
- Cabin air filter: replace every 20,000 miles (32,000 km).
- Engine air filter: replace every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) on 2018–2022 trucks and every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) on 2023 trucks. On dusty or sandy roads, with extensive idling or off-road, inspect it frequently and replace as required.
- Spark plugs: replace every 100,000 miles (160,000 km) on the gasoline engines. Ford's severe case is towing a trailer or car-top carrier, or extensive idling or low-speed driving; then it's every 60,000 miles (96,000 km). Trucks with a pickup-bed power outlet are on 55,000 miles (88,500 km) in the first printing of the 2021 manual (September 2020) and on 60,000 miles in the later 2021 printings (May and October 2021) and in the 2022 and 2023 manuals.
- Accessory drive belt: inspect at 100,000 miles (160,000 km), then every other oil change until it is replaced, and replace it at 150,000 miles (240,000 km) if it hasn't been replaced in the last 100,000 miles. On 2021–2023 trucks with the bed power outlet: inspect at 60,000 miles and replace at 100,000 miles.
Transmission, axles and transfer case
- Automatic transmission: change the fluid and filter every 150,000 miles (240,000 km). The 2018–2020 manuals add a fluid level check at every oil change on transmissions with a dipstick. The first printing of the 2021 manual limits the 150,000-mile change to non-hybrid trucks; the later 2021 printings and the 2022 and 2023 manuals list it without that exclusion.
- Front axle (4x4) and rear axle: change the fluid every 150,000 miles (240,000 km), and any time the axle has been submerged in water.
- Transfer case (4x4): change the fluid every 150,000 miles (240,000 km).
Coolant, brake fluid and battery
Engine coolant. The first replacement changed in 2020:
- 2018–2019: first at six years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), then every three years or 50,000 miles (80,000 km).
- 2020–2023: first at 10 years or 200,000 miles (322,000 km), then every five years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km).
On the diesel under severe conditions, the first flush and refill comes at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or 2,400 engine hours, then every 45,000 miles (≈72,000 km) or 1,800 engine hours.
Brake fluid. The 2018–2019 normal schedule has no brake fluid change. From 2020, Ford says to change it every 3 years and not to exceed that time.
Battery. Check the connections every six months and clean them if necessary.
3.0L Power Stroke diesel extras
The diesel was offered through 2021 in these manuals. Replace its engine-mounted and frame-mounted fuel filters every 30,000 miles (48,000 km); under severe diesel conditions, every 30,000 miles, six months or 600 engine hours. Drain the fuel and water separator monthly or when the display tells you to. The 2020 and 2021 manuals also replace the timing belt and fuel pump drive belt at 150,000 miles (240,000 km).
Raptor owners should also know the manuals include a separate off-road training-use table measured in hours, not miles. It isn't a mileage schedule and isn't covered here.
Common questions about the Ford F-150
How often does a Ford F-150 need an oil change?
When the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor shows the oil change message, within two weeks or 500 miles (≈800 km) of it appearing, and never more than one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km) apart. On dusty or sandy roads, Ford's severe schedule is every 5,000 miles (≈8,000 km) or six months.
When should F-150 spark plugs be replaced?
Every 100,000 miles (160,000 km) on the gasoline engines in the 2018–2023 manuals, or every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) if you tow a trailer or car-top carrier or do a lot of idling or low-speed driving. Trucks with a pickup-bed power outlet are on 55,000 miles (88,500 km) in the first printing of the 2021 manual and 60,000 miles in the later 2021 printings and in 2022–2023.
How often does the F-150 10-speed transmission fluid get changed?
Ford's 2018–2023 schedules change the automatic transmission fluid and filter every 150,000 miles (240,000 km). The first printing of the 2021 manual limits that line to non-hybrid trucks.
When is the first F-150 coolant change?
On 2020–2023 trucks, at 10 years or 200,000 miles (322,000 km), then every five years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km). On 2018–2019 trucks, at six years or 100,000 miles, then every three years or 50,000 miles (80,000 km).
Where is the maintenance schedule for a 2024 or newer F-150?
Not in the owner's manual. From 2024 Ford's manual points to a VIN-based maintenance schedule tool on ford.com instead of printing the table, so this guide gives no figures for 2024 and later trucks.
