These figures come from Audi's US maintenance cards for model years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 of the B9 A4. Its engine is the 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder: the 2.0T and the A4 ultra in 2017–2018, and the A4 40 TFSI and A4 45 TFSI in 2019–2020. This guide does not cover the B9 model years after 2020, which run through 2025, or earlier A4 generations (model years before 2017), and it gives no figures for them. For those cars, use the owner's literature that came with the car.

How Minor and Standard Maintenance work
Audi builds the schedule from two kinds of visit, Minor Maintenance and Standard Maintenance. The first Minor Maintenance is due at 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 1 year after delivery. After that, Minor and Standard Maintenance alternate, and each kind comes every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 2 years. Put together, a visit falls due every 10,000 miles or 12 months.
The engine oil and filter are changed, and the brake pad thickness is checked, on that same rhythm. Standard Maintenance adds a check of the brake hoses and bleeder caps and a check of the connected box battery.
Most items on the card carry both a mileage and a time, such as 10,000 miles or 12 months, so keep track of the date as well as the odometer.
Engine oil, filters and spark plugs
Engine oil and filter. Change the oil and replace the filter every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months. The first change is due at 10,000 miles or 1 year after delivery. Audi gives no separate severe-service number. Under severe conditions, such as extremely low temperatures or excessive dust, Audi says engine oil changes must be done in between the given intervals, and it does not say how much sooner.
Cabin air filter. Replace the dust and pollen filter every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 2 years, whichever occurs first.
Engine air filter. Replace the air filter element every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km). Audi gives no time interval for it, and the 2017 card also says to clean the housing. Under severe conditions such as excessive dust, Audi says to clean or replace the filter in between the given intervals. It gives no number for that.
Spark plugs. Replace them every 40,000 miles (≈64,000 km) or 6 years, whichever occurs first. This applies to the 2.0L TFSI in every covered year: the 2.0T and the A4 ultra in 2017–2018, and the A4 40 TFSI and A4 45 TFSI in 2019–2020.
Brakes and brake fluid
Brake pads. Audi's cards say to check the thickness of the brake pads at every Minor and Standard Maintenance, which is every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months. At Standard Maintenance, Audi also has the brake hoses and bleeder caps checked.
Brake discs, 2017 only. The 2017 card adds a check of the brake disc thickness every 40,000 miles (≈64,000 km) or 4 years, whichever occurs first. The 2018, 2019 and 2020 cards check pad thickness only.
Brake fluid. Change the brake fluid every 2 years regardless of mileage. It is a time-based item, so a car that covers few miles still comes due by date.
Transmission: S tronic and manual
The 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission was fitted in all four covered years, 2017–2020. Audi says to change the S tronic fluid every 40,000 miles (≈64,000 km). The schedule gives no time interval for this item.
The 2.0T quattro in 2017 and 2018 was also offered with a 6-speed manual. The S tronic fluid item does not apply to it, and this page gives no figure for the manual gearbox. Confirm which transmission your car has before you use the 40,000-mile figure.
Battery and drive belt checks
Connected box battery. At Standard Maintenance, every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 2 years, Audi says to check the state of health of the connected box battery (for Audi Connected Services) with the diagnostic tester. All four cards, 2017 to 2020, list it. The 2017 card also checks the 12 V battery: clean terminals, a properly mounted housing and no damage, with replacement if necessary. Audi's current cards only check the batteries and give no battery replacement interval. Earlier editions of the 2017 and 2018 schedules listed a connected-gateway battery replacement; the current cards replace it with this state-of-health check.
Ribbed V-belt, 2017 only. The 2017 card says to check the ribbed V-belt and replace it if necessary every 80,000 miles (≈129,000 km), and to check the belt-drive tension where a manual tensioner is fitted. The 2018, 2019 and 2020 cards have no belt check for the A4, so the 80,000-mile figure applies to the 2017 model year only.
What Audi does not schedule for the 2017–2020 A4
A few items that generic checklists include have no interval in Audi's US cards for 2017–2020:
- Tire rotation. There is no rotation item. Standard Maintenance only checks the tire condition, tread depth and pressure.
- Engine coolant. There is no replacement interval. Standard Maintenance only checks the freeze protection and the coolant level.
- Rear differential fluid. There is no fluid change for the A4, only a leak check.
- Battery replacement. Audi's current cards only check the batteries and set no replacement interval.
- Fuel system, intake valve and carbon cleaning. Audi does not list it as a scheduled item.
If a shop quotes one of these as factory scheduled for a 2017–2020 A4, ask which Audi document it comes from.
