Mercedes-Benz Maintenance Schedule: Service A and B

The US maintenance plan for the C-Class, GLC, E-Class and GLE is built around two alternating visits, Service A and Service B, plus a short list of items due by mileage or age. This page explains that shared rhythm, shows the headline intervals for each model, and links to the full guide for each one.

Everything below comes from Mercedes-Benz USA documents: the Model Year 2017 Maintenance Booklet (which covers the C-Class, E-Class and GLC), the MBUSA Prepaid Maintenance Coverage chart for Model Year 2015 and newer vehicles, the MBUSA Service A / Service B owner page, and the MY2021 GLE SUV Operator's Manual. Where a statement only holds for certain models or years, the section says so.

How Service A and Service B work

On the models covered here, the first Service A is due at 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first. The first Service B follows at 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 24 months. After that, each service repeats every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 24 months, and the two alternate. In practice that means one Service A or Service B visit every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months.

• Service A covers the engine oil and filter change, fluid checks, and a brake and tire inspection. For the C-Class and GLC, the MY2017 booklet also lists the dust filter and a poly-V-belt check at Service A.
• Service B includes everything in Service A, plus replacement of the cabin dust/combination filter and a brake fluid exchange, according to MBUSA's Service A / Service B page.

The engine oil and filter are changed at every Service A and every Service B, so the oil interval on these models is 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months. The MBUSA prepaid chart lists synthetic motor oil and filter at every 10,000-mile step. For the C-Class, GLC and E-Class, the booklet gives no separate severe-service oil interval; instead, it explains that the car's own display can move the next visit earlier.

ASSYST PLUS and the maintenance display

The MY2017 Maintenance Booklet ties service timing to ASSYST PLUS, the maintenance display in the instrument cluster. It says ASSYST PLUS may show the next service earlier than the standard interval depending on operating conditions. The MY2019, MY2020 and MY2021 operator's manuals checked for the C-Class and GLC defer intervals to the Maintenance Booklet and ASSYST PLUS rather than printing their own schedule.

So the practical rule on the C-Class, GLC and E-Class: follow the display. If it calls for Service A or Service B before 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months, that earlier date applies.

Items due by mileage or age

On top of the A/B rhythm, the MY2017 booklet and the MBUSA prepaid chart add these items. They are sourced for the C-Class, GLC and E-Class in the booklet, and for Model Year 2015 and newer models on the prepaid chart (which is what backs the GLE figures).

• Brake fluid: replace every 2 years. The booklet marks this for every model it covers; the prepaid chart and the Service B page place the brake fluid change at every Service B.
• Cabin filter: the activated charcoal dust filter is replaced at every Service B, every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 24 months. The booklet says to replace it sooner with heavy dust or frequent use of air recirculation.
• Spark plugs (gasoline engines): replace every 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) or 5 years in the booklet; the prepaid chart shows them at 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) and 100,000 miles (≈161,000 km). Frequent starting and stopping, excessive idling or sustained fast highway driving may call for earlier replacement.
• Engine air filter: replace every 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) or 5 years for the engines the booklet lists; replace more often in very dusty conditions.
• Automatic transmission: oil and oil filter change every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km), with no time limit. The prepaid chart marks this row "Model Year 2015 or newer only".
• AMG C 63, GLC 63, GLE 53 and GLE 63 S: the prepaid chart's "Specific AMG Model Services" row lists the engine air filter and the transmission oil and filter every 30,000 miles (≈48,000 km), and a rear axle oil change first at 2,000 miles (≈3,200 km), then every 30,000 miles (≈48,000 km). On the C-Class, the booklet limits the rear axle oil change to AMG cars with the self-locking rear differential (code 467/471) or the AMG Performance/Handling Package (P30).

Coolant and fuel filter timing differ by model, so they appear in the model sections below.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W205, 2015–2021)

The fourth-generation C-Class schedule was checked row by row in the MY2017 booklet. Model years 2018 to 2021 are backed by the prepaid chart, the Service A/B page and the MY2019 and MY2021 operator's manuals, with no evidence of a schedule change. Engines covered: the C 300 2.0L turbo four (M274, then M264 from the MY2019 facelift), the AMG C 43 3.0L biturbo V6 (M276) and the AMG C 63 / C 63 S 4.0L biturbo V8 (M177).

• Engine oil and filter: every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months.
• Spark plugs: every 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) or 5 years, including AMG engines.
• Automatic transmission oil and filter: every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km) on the C 300 and C 43; the MY2017 booklet schedules the C 63 change once at 30,000 miles (≈48,000 km) or 3 years, and MBUSA's prepaid chart repeats it at 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km) and 90,000 miles (≈145,000 km).
• Engine coolant: every 120,000 miles (≈193,000 km) or 12 years.
• Transfer case oil: every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km), 4MATIC cars with the NAG3 automatic only.

Mercedes-Benz GLC (X253, 2016–2022)

The first-generation GLC is marked alongside the C-Class in the MY2017 booklet, with the same intervals. Model years 2018 to 2021 are backed by the prepaid chart, the Service A/B page and the MY2019 and MY2020 operator's manuals. Engines covered: the GLC 300 2.0L turbo four (M274, then M264 from the MY2020 facelift), the AMG GLC 43 3.0L biturbo V6 (M276) and, from MY2018, the AMG GLC 63 / 63 S 4.0L biturbo V8 (M177).

• Engine oil and filter: every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months.
• Cabin air filter: every 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 24 months.
• Spark plugs: every 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) or 5 years; the engine air filter follows the same interval on the GLC 300 and AMG GLC 43.
• Automatic transmission oil and filter: every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km).
• Engine coolant and gasoline fuel filter: every 120,000 miles (≈193,000 km) or 12 years.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213, verified for MY2017)

The fifth-generation E-Class figures come from the E-Class column of the MY2017 booklet, corroborated by the prepaid chart. These figures are documented for Model Year 2017. Engines covered: the E 300 2.0L turbo four (M274) and the Mercedes-AMG E 43 3.0L biturbo V6 (M276).

• Engine oil and filter: every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months.
• Spark plugs and engine air filter: every 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) or 5 years.
• Automatic transmission oil and filter: every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km).
• Engine coolant: every 150,000 miles (≈241,000 km) or 15 years.
• Gasoline fuel filter: every 150,000 miles (≈241,000 km) or 15 years.

Mercedes-Benz GLE (V167, verified for MY2021)

The fourth-generation GLE figures are verified for Model Year 2021 against the MBUSA prepaid chart, the MY2021 GLE SUV Operator's Manual and the Service A/B page. Engines covered: the GLE 350 2.0L turbo four (M264), the GLE 450 3.0L turbo inline-six with EQ Boost (M256), the GLE 580 4.0L biturbo V8 (M177), and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 and GLE 63 S.

• Engine oil and filter: synthetic oil and filter every 10,000 miles (≈16,000 km) or 12 months.
• Cabin filter and brake fluid: replaced at every Service B, 20,000 miles (≈32,000 km) or 24 months.
• Spark plugs and engine air filter: at 50,000 miles (≈80,000 km) and 100,000 miles (≈161,000 km) on the prepaid chart (engine air filter: GLE 350, GLE 450 and GLE 580).
• Automatic transmission (9G-TRONIC) oil and filter: every 60,000 miles (≈97,000 km) on the GLE 350, GLE 450 and GLE 580.
• AMG GLE 53 and GLE 63 S: engine air filter and transmission oil and filter every 30,000 miles (≈48,000 km); rear differential oil first at 2,000 miles (≈3,200 km), then every 30,000 miles (≈48,000 km).
