Hyundai Maintenance Schedules: Elantra to Tucson

Hyundai does not publish one schedule for every car it sells. Intervals change between engines and even between model years of the same generation. Pick your model, check that your year is covered, and follow the link to the full schedule built from that model's owner's manuals.

Four model guides are available, each scoped to the years whose manuals were checked:

• Elantra (CN7, 2022–2025): Hyundai Elantra maintenance schedule
• Santa Fe (TM 2022–2023 and MX5 2024–2025): Hyundai Santa Fe maintenance schedule
• Sonata (DN8, 2021–2024): Hyundai Sonata maintenance schedule
• Tucson (TL, 2019–2021): Hyundai Tucson maintenance schedule

If your model or year is not on that list, use your own owner's manual. The figures below apply only to the models and years named next to them.

How Hyundai's schedules are organised

Every manual behind these four guides splits maintenance into two tables.

The normal schedule is a grid of mileage and month columns. Some services are inspected at one interval and replaced at a longer one, so check the verb. An engine air filter on a 2022–2025 Elantra 2.0, for example, is inspected every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months and only replaced at 24,000 miles (39,000 km) or 36 months.

The severe schedule lists shorter intervals for some services. Each owner's manual prints the driving conditions that call for it next to that schedule. If any of them describe how you drive, use the severe intervals.

Two patterns repeat across the manuals checked:

• Oil has a shorter severe interval. On the 2022–2025 Elantra 2.0 and 1.6T, the 2022–2023 Santa Fe 2.5, the 2022–2025 Santa Fe 2.5T, the 2021–2024 Sonata 2.5 and the 2021–2023 Sonata 1.6T, the normal oil interval is 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months and the severe interval is 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 6 months. The 6-month figure is the severe interval, not the normal one, in every Elantra year checked, 2024 included.
• Some automatic transmissions, including the Elantra's IVT, have no normal-schedule fluid service. The 2022–2025 Elantra 2.0 IVT, the 2022–2023 Santa Fe 2.5 automatic, the 2021–2024 Sonata 2.5 and 2021–2023 Sonata 1.6T automatic, and the 2019–2021 Tucson automatic are all listed as "No check, No service required" on the normal schedule. Each of those manuals calls for replacement every 60,000 miles under severe usage (the Elantra and Santa Fe sections give the km each manual prints). Dual-clutch transmissions are handled differently.

Hyundai Elantra (CN7, 2022–2025)

The CN7 Elantra guide covers 2022–2025, with four engines: the 2.0L Smartstream MPI Atkinson I4, the 1.6L Smartstream T-GDi I4 in the N Line, the 2.0L Smartstream T-GDi I4 in the Elantra N, and the 1.6L Smartstream GDi hybrid.

Headline intervals for the 2.0 and 1.6T:

• Engine oil and filter: replace every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months; severe, every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 6 months. The oil must meet API SN PLUS, and full synthetic is specified from 2024.
• Spark plugs: replace every 96,000 miles (156,000 km) on the 2.0; on the 1.6T, 47,000 miles (≈76,000 km) for 2022 and 48,000 miles (78,000 km) for 2023–2025.
• Brake fluid: inspect every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months, replace every 48,000 miles (78,000 km) or 48 months.
• Engine coolant: first replacement at 120,000 miles (200,000 km) or 120 months, then every 30,000 miles or 24 months on 2022 cars and every 24,000 miles (39,000 km) or 24 months on 2023–2025 cars.
• IVT fluid (2.0): no normal-schedule service; severe, replace every 60,000 miles (90,000 km).
• Dual-clutch fluid (1.6T): inspect every 32,000 miles or 48 months on 2022–2023 cars; the 2024–2025 manuals list no normal-schedule service. Severe usage calls for replacement every 80,000 miles in both cases.

The Elantra N runs a tighter table: oil every 6,000 miles (10,000 km) or 12 months (severe, every 3,000 miles (5,000 km) or 6 months) and spark plugs at 42,000 miles (70,000 km). The hybrid's oil interval is 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months for 2022 and 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months for 2023–2025.

Hyundai Santa Fe (TM 2022–2023, MX5 2024–2025)

The Santa Fe guide spans the fourth-generation TM (2022–2023) and fifth-generation MX5 (2024–2025). TM engines are the 2.5L Smartstream GDI/MPI I4, the 2.5L Smartstream T-GDI I4, a 1.6L T-GDI hybrid and a 1.6L T-GDI plug-in hybrid. The MX5 uses the 2.5L Smartstream T-GDI I4 and a 1.6L T-GDI hybrid.

Headline intervals for the gasoline engines:

• Engine oil and filter: every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months in both generations; severe, every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 6 months. API SN PLUS is required.
• Spark plugs: 96,000 miles (156,000 km) on the non-turbo 2.5 (2022–2023) and 48,000 miles (78,000 km) on the 2.5T in both generations.
• Brake fluid: replace every 48,000 miles (78,000 km) or 48 months (the 2022 2.5T manual prints 80,000 km), except the 2022 non-turbo 2.5, which is listed at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or 48 months.
• Engine coolant: on 2023–2025 models, first at 120,000 miles (200,000 km) or 120 months, then every 24,000 miles (39,000 km) or 24 months (the 2023 manual prints 40,000 km). The 2022 non-turbo 2.5 repeats every 30,000 miles (50,000 km) or 24 months; the 2022 2.5T is first at 80,000 miles (130,000 km) or 10 years, then every 24,000 miles (39,000 km) or 24 months.
• Automatic transmission fluid (2022–2023 2.5): no normal-schedule service; severe, replace every 60,000 miles (96,000 km).
• Dual-clutch fluid (2.5T): inspect every 32,000 miles or 48 months; severe, replace every 56,000 miles (91,000 km).

On the MX5 2.5T, the rear differential and transfer case are inspected every 32,000 miles or 48 months, with replacement every 72,000 miles (120,000 km) under severe usage.

Hyundai Sonata (DN8, 2021–2024)

The DN8 Sonata guide covers 2021–2024. Engines are the 2.5L Smartstream GDi I4, the 1.6L Smartstream T-GDi I4, the 2.5L Smartstream T-GDi I4 in the N Line, and the 2.0L Smartstream GDi hybrid. The 1.6T does not appear in the 2024 manual.

Headline intervals for the 2.5 (2021–2024) and 1.6T (2021–2023):

• Engine oil and filter: every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months; severe, every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 6 months. Full synthetic meeting API SN PLUS.
• Spark plugs: 96,000 miles (156,000 km) on the 2.5. The 1.6T is every 40,000 miles (≈64,000 km) on 2021–2022 cars and 48,000 miles (78,000 km) on 2023 cars. The N Line 2.5T moved from 96,000 miles (156,000 km) in 2022 to 48,000 miles (78,000 km) for 2023–2024.
• Brake fluid: inspect every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months, replace every 48,000 miles (78,000 km) or 48 months.
• Engine coolant: first at 120,000 miles (200,000 km) or 120 months, then every 30,000 miles or 24 months on 2021–2022 cars and every 24,000 miles (39,000 km) or 24 months on 2023–2024 cars.
• Automatic transmission fluid (2.5, 1.6T): no normal-schedule service; severe, replace every 60,000 miles.
• Dual-clutch fluid (N Line, 2022–2024): inspect every 32,000 miles or 48 months; severe replacement is 64,000 miles in the 2022 manual and 56,000 miles in the 2023–2024 manuals.

The hybrid's oil interval is 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months for 2021 and 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months for 2022–2023, with spark plugs at 100,000 miles (≈161,000 km).

Hyundai Tucson (TL, 2019–2021)

The TL Tucson guide covers 2019–2021, with the 2.0L Nu GDI I4 and the 2.4L Theta II GDI I4. Its schedule runs on a 7,500-mile table.

• Engine oil and filter: every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months; severe, every 3,750 miles (6,000 km) or 6 months.
• Cabin air filter: every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months. Engine air filter: 22,500 miles (≈36,000 km) or 36 months.
• Spark plugs: 97,500 miles (≈157,000 km).
• Brake fluid: the 2019 manual lists inspection only, every 15,000 miles (≈24,000 km) or 24 months, with no replacement interval. The 2020–2021 manuals add replacement every 30,000 miles or 48 months.
• Engine coolant: first at 120,000 miles or 10 years, then every 30,000 miles or 24 months.
• Automatic transmission fluid: no normal-schedule service; severe, replace every 60,000 miles.
• AWD rear differential and transfer case: inspect every 30,000 miles or 48 months; severe, replace every 75,000 miles (≈121,000 km).

Reading your own manual

Hyundai revised intervals within a generation more than once in these manuals: the Elantra 1.6T spark plug interval moved from 47,000 to 48,000 miles between 2022 and 2023, the coolant repeat interval on several models dropped from 30,000 to 24,000 miles, and the Elantra 1.6T dual-clutch inspection disappeared from the normal schedule for 2024. A figure that is right for one model year can be wrong for the next.

When you check your own manual:

1. Find the schedule for your exact engine. Hybrids and the Elantra N have their own owner's manuals, and some manuals split rows by engine.
2. Check whether each service is an inspection or a replacement.
3. Turn to the severe schedule and read the driving conditions listed with it. If any describe how you drive, use the shorter interval.
4. Note both limits. Most items give a mileage and a month figure.
