CN7 Elantra (2022–2025): engines and why the intervals differ

The seventh-generation Elantra (chassis code CN7, sold from 2021 on) covers four powertrains across the 2022–2025 model years:

  • 2.0L Smartstream MPI naturally aspirated I4 — SE, SEL, Limited trims
  • 1.6L turbocharged GDI I4 — N Line
  • 2.0L turbocharged GDI I4 — Elantra N
  • 1.6L Smartstream GDI Atkinson I4 hybrid with a 32 kW electric motor — Hybrid, Hybrid Blue, Hybrid Limited

Each engine has its own oil interval, its own spark-plug life, and its own severe-service conditions. The intervals below come from Hyundai's maintenance booklets, verified September 24, 2026. Where an interval changed between model years, both are listed. Where Hyundai lists "no service required," the note explains why.

For older Elantras and Hyundai's broader maintenance philosophy, see the Hyundai maintenance schedule overview.

Engine oil and filter

2.0L Smartstream MPI naturally aspirated I4 (SE/SEL/Limited), 2022–2025: every 8,000 miles or 12 months. Severe service: every 5,000 miles or 6 months under conditions A through L. The 6-month severe figure holds in every year checked, including 2024 and 2025. Requires API SN PLUS; full synthetic oil from 2024.

1.6L turbocharged GDI I4 (N Line), 2022–2025: every 8,000 miles or 12 months. Severe service: every 5,000 miles or 6 months. The 2022–2023 manuals apply the severe interval under all listed conditions; the 2024–2025 manuals narrow it to conditions D, H, I, and L. Requires API SN PLUS; full synthetic oil from 2024.

2.0L turbocharged GDI I4 (Elantra N), 2022–2025: every 6,000 miles or 12 months. Severe service: every 3,000 miles or 6 months, under conditions G, J, K, L in the 2022 manual and D, H, I, L in the 2025 manual.

1.6L hybrid, 2022: every 7,500 miles or 12 months. Severe service: every 3,750 miles or 6 months.

1.6L hybrid, 2023–2025: every 8,000 miles or 12 months. Severe service: every 3,750 miles or 6 months.

The Elantra N runs the shortest normal interval of the lineup at 6,000 miles, and the shortest severe interval at 3,000 miles. The hybrid's normal interval moved from 7,500 miles in 2022 to 8,000 miles from 2023 on, but its severe interval stayed at 3,750 miles across every year.

Transmission and drivetrain

CVT fluid (IVT) — 2.0L naturally aspirated: no fixed interval under normal driving; the manual specifies "no check, no service required." Severe service: replace every 60,000 miles under conditions A, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, or K.

Dual-clutch transmission fluid — 1.6L turbo N Line, 2022–2023: inspect at 32,000 miles or 48 months, and again at 96 and 144 months. Severe service: replace every 80,000 miles.

Dual-clutch transmission fluid — 1.6L turbo N Line, 2024–2025: no fixed interval under normal driving ("no check, no service required"). Severe service: replace every 80,000 miles under conditions C, D, F, G, H, I, J. The July 2023 first printing of the 2024 manual still showed the 48-month inspection; the November 2023 revised printing and the 2025 manual replaced it with "no service required." The revised printing supersedes the earlier one.

Dual-clutch transmission fluid — 2.0L turbo Elantra N, 2022–2025: inspect at 24,000 miles or 48 months, and again at 48,000 miles or 96 months. Severe service: replace every 56,000 miles. This is the one N-Line-adjacent DCT that keeps a normal-service inspection schedule across every model year covered here.

Dual-clutch transmission fluid — 1.6L hybrid, 2022–2023: inspect at 40,000 miles or 48 months, and again at 80,000 miles or 96 months. Severe service: replace every 80,000 miles.

Dual-clutch transmission fluid — 1.6L hybrid, 2024–2025: no fixed interval under normal driving ("no check, no service required"). Severe service: replace every 80,000 miles.

Engine clutch actuator fluid — 1.6L hybrid: replace every 26,000 miles or 24 months in the 2022–2023 manuals, every 24,000 miles or 24 months in the 2024–2025 manuals. This is separate from the DCT fluid itself and covers the hydraulic circuit for the engine-disconnect clutch.

Manual transmission fluid — 1.6L turbo N Line 6-speed, 2022–2023: replace every 40,000 miles or 48 months. Severe service: every 80,000 miles — longer than the normal interval, as printed in both manuals. The 2024–2025 N Line manuals drop the manual-transmission row entirely.

Manual transmission fluid — 2.0L turbo Elantra N 6-speed, 2022–2025: no fixed interval under normal driving ("no check, no service required"). Severe service: replace every 72,000 miles.

The easy-to-miss items

Tire rotation — 2.0L naturally aspirated and 1.6L turbo N Line: every 8,000 miles in 2022 (the 2022 manual gives miles only); every 8,000 miles or 12 months for 2023–2025.

Hybrid starter-generator belt — 1.6L hybrid, 2022–2023: inspect every 7,500 miles or 12 months; replace every 67,500 miles or 48 months.

Hybrid starter-generator belt — 1.6L hybrid, 2024–2025: inspect every 8,000 miles or 12 months; replace every 64,000 miles or 48 months.

Owners who skip the manual transmission and DCT fluid checks are the ones most exposed: the normal-service line reads "no service required" on several Elantra N and post-2024 N Line and hybrid rows, but every one of those same rows still carries a severe-service mileage. If your driving matches any of the severe conditions in your manual, the "no service" line doesn't apply to you.

Common questions about the Hyundai Elantra

How often does a Hyundai Elantra need an oil change?

It depends on the engine. The 2.0L naturally aspirated and 1.6L turbo N Line engines call for an oil change every 8,000 miles or 12 months. The Elantra N's 2.0L turbo needs it every 6,000 miles or 12 months. The hybrid ran 7,500 miles in 2022, then moved to 8,000 miles or 12 months from 2023 on.

Does the Elantra N need its transmission fluid changed?

The Elantra N's dual-clutch transmission fluid gets inspected at 24,000 miles or 48 months, and again at 48,000 miles or 96 months, under normal driving. Severe service drops the replacement interval to every 56,000 miles.

What counts as severe service for the Elantra's oil-change interval?

Hyundai lists the severe-service conditions by letter in each owner's manual, and which letters apply varies by engine and model year. Under severe conditions, the naturally aspirated and N Line engines drop to every 5,000 miles or 6 months, and the Elantra N drops to every 3,000 miles or 6 months.
