Cuprins
Your 2017–2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sits in the second half of the W205 generation (2015–2021). Three engines cover this range: the 2.0L turbocharged inline-four in the C 300 (engine code M274, then M264 from the MY2019 facelift), the 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 in the AMG C 43 (M276), and the 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 in the AMG C 63 and C 63 S (M177). Trim and engine matter here — several intervals below only apply to specific engines, so check which one is under your hood before assuming a number applies to your car.
Mercedes-Benz runs two alternating service packages on the C-Class: Service A and Service B. The first Service A lands at 10,000 mi or 12 months, then Service A and B alternate every 20,000 mi or 24 months apiece, which means an A or B visit shows up roughly every 10,000 miles or 12 months. The onboard ASSYST PLUS system may call a service earlier than that under harsh operating conditions, per the booklet. For the broader Mercedes-Benz service framework this schedule sits inside, see the Mercedes-Benz maintenance schedule overview.
Oil and the Service A/B Pattern
Service A covers oil and filter, fluid checks, and a brake/tire inspection. For the C-Class it also includes the dust cabin filter and a poly-V-belt check. Service B repeats the oil and filter change and adds the activated-charcoal combination cabin filter; Mercedes-Benz USA's page also lists the brake-fluid exchange under Service B.
Engine oil and filter replacement happens at every Service A and every Service B, so in practice you're looking at a change every 10,000 miles or 12 months. There's no separate severe-service oil number in the booklet. Instead, ASSYST PLUS accounts for harsher use by moving the next service reminder earlier — that's built into the normal schedule, not an add-on interval. If your dash shows a service due well before the 10,000-mile mark, that's the system reading your actual driving conditions rather than an error.
It helps to think of Service A and Service B as one continuous 10,000-mile rhythm rather than two separate schedules. At 10,000 mi you get Service A. At 20,000 mi you get Service B, which repeats the oil and filter change and adds the cabin filter and brake fluid. At 30,000 mi it's Service A again, and so on. Oil and filter change every time, regardless of which letter is due.
Transmission and Drivetrain
Automatic transmission fluid service differs by engine. On the C 300 (M274, and M264 from the 2019 facelift) and the AMG C 43 (M276), it's an oil and filter change at 60,000 mi with no time limit given. The M264 four-cylinder isn't in the original MY17 booklet's engine list, but Mercedes-Benz USA's prepaid maintenance chart covers MY2015-and-newer models generically at this interval.
The AMG C 63 and C 63 S (M177) are different: the booklet calls for transmission fluid once at 30,000 mi, and Mercedes-Benz USA's prepaid chart repeats that service at 60,000 mi and 90,000 mi.
If your C-Class has 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the transfer case fluid on the 9G-TRONIC (NAG3) transmission gets changed at 60,000 mi, with no time limit specified. Rear-wheel-drive C-Class models skip this service entirely — there's no transfer case to service.
On AMG models, the rear differential fluid is changed once at 2,000 mi, then every 30,000 mi or 36 months after that. This applies to the AMG C 63/C 63 S (M177), and to the AMG C 43 (M276) only if it is equipped with option code 467, 471, or P30. It doesn't apply to the non-AMG C 300. Because the option code determines whether this line applies to a C 43, it's worth checking your build sheet rather than assuming every C 43 needs it.
Between the transmission, transfer case, and differential, the C-Class drivetrain schedule reads very differently depending on trim. A rear-wheel-drive C 300 owner only ever sees the 60,000-mile transmission service. A 4MATIC C 43 owner sees the transmission service, the transfer case service, and — if so equipped — the differential fluid change starting at 2,000 miles. Don't apply one owner's schedule to another car in the lineup.
Brakes, Cooling and Spark Plugs
Brake fluid is a time-based service in the booklet: every 24 months. Mercedes-Benz USA's Service B description and prepaid chart also place the brake-fluid exchange at every Service B visit, which lines up with the same roughly-24-month cadence.
Brake inspection — a visual check of pads, linings, and disks — happens at every Service A and every Service B, so every 10,000 mi or 12 months. This is a visual check, not a fluid or pad replacement on a fixed interval; how long pads and disks actually last depends on how the car is driven.
Engine coolant is a long-interval item: 120,000 mi or 144 months, provided the correct mixture ratio is maintained. It may need attention sooner if a non-approved coolant was ever used in the system.
Spark plugs go 50,000 mi or 60 months across all gasoline engines, including the AMG cars. If you've seen a 40,000-mile spark plug interval mentioned for a Mercedes-Benz, that figure is an AMG row that applies only to the CLA and GLA — it doesn't apply to the C-Class. Severe conditions — frequent starting and stopping, excessive idling, or sustained fast highway driving — may call for earlier replacement, per the booklet.
Filters
The engine air filter interval depends on engine. For the C 300 (M274, M264 from the 2019 facelift) and the AMG C 43 (M276), it's 50,000 mi or 60 months — the MY17 booklet's engine list predates the M264, but Mercedes-Benz USA's prepaid chart gives the same 50K figure generically across MY2015-and-newer models. The AMG C 63 and C 63 S (M177) run on a shorter cycle: 30,000 mi or 36 months, matching the "Specific AMG Model Services" row on the prepaid chart. Under heavy dust, the engine air filter may need replacement more often.
The activated-charcoal cabin filter is replaced at every Service B — 20,000 mi or 24 months. The booklet also marks "replace dust filter" at every Service A and Service B for the C-Class, though a footnote notes the specific interval for your country may apply. Mercedes-Benz USA's prepaid chart shows the cabin dust/combination filter only at the 20,000-mile steps. Under heavy dust or frequent recirculation use, replace it sooner.
Fuel filter service on gasoline engines is 120,000 mi or 144 months — the same long interval as the coolant. Both sit near the end of the maintenance schedule's timeline, well beyond where the Service A/B cycle repeats, so they're easy to lose track of over a decade of ownership.
Easy to Miss
A few items are easy to skip:
- The poly-V-belt visual inspection happens at every Service A (first at 10,000 mi/12 months, then every 20,000 mi/24 months) — it's not listed on the Service B table for the C-Class, so don't expect it every visit.
- On the C 43, the AMG rear differential fluid change is option-code dependent. If your C 43 wasn't built with option code 467, 471, or P30, this line doesn't apply to your car.
- The transfer case fluid only applies to 4MATIC-equipped cars — if you drive a rear-wheel-drive C-Class, skip it.
- Coolant and fuel filter both sit at 120,000 mi/144 months, well past where most owners stop tracking service history, which is exactly when they get missed.
- The AMG C 63/C 63 S engine air filter (30,000 mi/36 months) is much shorter than the C 300/C 43 interval (50,000 mi/60 months). If you're used to a non-AMG schedule and move into a C 63, don't carry the longer interval over.
- Brake fluid is time-based at 24 months regardless of mileage. A low-mileage C-Class that's aged past two years still needs it, even if the odometer says the car barely gets driven.
Întrebări frecvente despre Mercedes-Benz C-Class
How often does a C-Class need Service A vs Service B?
Service A and Service B alternate every 20,000 mi or 24 months, with the first Service A at 10,000 mi/12 months. In practice that means an A or B visit every 10,000 mi or 12 months.
Is the C-Class spark plug interval different for AMG models?
No. All gasoline engines, including the AMG C 43 and C 63/C 63 S, use the same 50,000 mi/60-month spark plug interval. A 40,000-mile figure sometimes cited for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is an AMG row that applies only to the CLA and GLA, not the C-Class.
Does the C-Class need rear differential service?
Only AMG models: the C 63/C 63 S, and the C 43 if it was built with option code 467, 471, or P30. The first change is at 2,000 mi, then every 30,000 mi/36 months. The standard C 300 doesn't have this service.
