Most people assume winter is the hard season on a car. In practice, summer causes more breakdowns.   • Listen for clutch cycling or odd noises: Rapid clicking or squealing from the compressor is worth diagnosing before it fails outright.

4. Tires — heat and hot roads cause blowouts

Summer is blowout season. Hot asphalt plus high speeds plus an underinflated or aging tire is the classic recipe for a failure at exactly the wrong moment.

  • Set pressures correctly: Check pressures cold in the morning and set to the door-jamb spec — never the max number on the sidewall. Heat raises running pressure naturally; deliberately dropping pressure to "compensate" causes more heat buildup and blowout risk.
