The story

I've been writing software for over 12 years. I've also been maintaining my own vehicles for about as long — oil changes, brake pads, the occasional deeper repair on weekends.

The two didn't overlap until I found myself at an auto parts counter, genuinely unsure whether my last oil change was 5W-30 or 10W-40, or whether I'd replaced the air filter 6 months ago or 18. I was keeping "records" in a mix of receipt photos, a notes app, and optimistic memory.

GarageHub started as a side project to fix my own problem.

Why maintaining your own car matters

Maintaining your own car is one of the most satisfying things you can do as a vehicle owner. You know exactly what went in, what was skipped, and what's coming due. You save money. You catch problems early because you're the one paying attention.

But it only works if you actually keep track. A service you can't remember is almost the same as a service you didn't do — you end up making the same decisions on incomplete information, every time.

Why I write these guides

When I built GarageHub I started writing guides alongside it — practical car maintenance content I wished existed in one clear place when I started wrenching. No fluff, no "consult a professional for everything," just honest checklists and explanations from someone who's done the same maintenance on their own cars.

The guides cover the fundamentals: keeping a service record, preparing for winter, what actually matters for long-term reliability.
